Brymo Urges Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido to Make Room for Younger Artistes in Pop Music

Nigerian singer Brymo has called on leading Afrobeats stars Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy to create more space for emerging talents, arguing that the continued dominance of a few established acts is limiting opportunities for younger artistes.

Speaking during an interview on TVC, the outspoken musician criticised the industry’s popular “Big 3” narrative, saying it has contributed to a situation where a handful of artistes continue to dominate the pop scene while younger talents struggle for visibility.

Brymo said the conversation should move beyond claims that new artistes lack substance and instead address what he described as efforts by some top performers to maintain control of the industry.

According to him, the music scene should evolve to allow fresh voices to flourish, noting that younger artistes with hit records often find it difficult to break through because the spotlight remains fixed on older stars.

The singer singled out Rema as one of the younger acts he believes should be leading the country’s global pop movement, insisting that the industry should give more prominence to the new generation.

Brymo also questioned the relevance of measuring success solely by radio airplay, arguing that visibility on traditional platforms does not necessarily reflect audience preferences or long-term impact.

He maintained that established artistes should embrace evolution in their careers rather than remain at the centre of the pop scene indefinitely, stressing that the growth of Nigerian music depends on creating opportunities for younger talents to shine.

While acknowledging the achievements of veteran and established stars, Brymo insisted that the future of Afrobeats lies in supporting the next generation and allowing the industry to reflect changing global trends.
