Veteran entertainer and outspoken social commentator Charly Boy has opened up about one of the darkest chapters of his life, admitting that he was once involved in theft and financial crimes while living in the United States.
Speaking on Friday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Charly Boy, whose real name is Charles Oputa, said he made several reckless decisions in his youth—choices he now deeply regrets.
“I’ve made mistakes in my life. I’ve been a thief. I’ve done very risky things. I’ve done very stupid things, very foolish things. In fact, I have no business being here with you tonight, but I guess there’s a purpose for my life,” he said.
The veteran entertainer revealed that at about 25 years old, he became involved in what he described as white-collar crimes while living in the United States.
“I was doing white-collar crime when I was in America. I was about 25 years old. I was doing a lot of stupid stuff. That’s why I say I’ve been there,” he added.
Rather than hide his past, Charly Boy said he deliberately documented those experiences in his memoir as an honest reflection of his journey—from rebellion, crime and poor choices to personal growth and transformation.
His revelation underscores his belief that acknowledging one’s past mistakes is an important step toward redemption and finding purpose.
