Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku etched his name into FIFA World Cup history after scoring in his side’s emphatic 4-1 victory over the United States in their Round of 16 clash on Tuesday.
Introduced in the 67th minute, Lukaku found the back of the net deep into stoppage time to cap a dominant Belgian performance and seal their place in the quarter-finals.
The goal made the former Chelsea and Manchester United forward the first player to score as a substitute in four FIFA World Cup matches, setting a new milestone in the tournament’s history.
Lukaku’s substitute goals have come against Senegal in the Round of 16, New Zealand and Egypt during the group stage, and now the United States in the knockout phase of the 2026 tournament.
Belgium will now turn their attention to a blockbuster quarter-final showdown against Spain, with Lukaku expected to play a key role as the Red Devils continue their quest for World Cup glory.
