Gunmen have invaded Government Secondary School (GSS), Olowa, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting the school principal, four students and a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc official during the ongoing NECO examination.
According to security sources, the attack occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday while candidates were writing their examination.
The assailants reportedly stormed the school, seized the victims and escaped to an unknown destination before security operatives could respond.
Following the incident, a joint team of security personnel launched a search-and-rescue operation, deploying intelligence assets and conducting bush-combing operations across the area to locate the kidnappers and rescue the victims.
Security sources disclosed that one of the abducted students has since been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the safe release of the remaining victims.
Security agencies have also intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering as investigations continue and efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack are stepped up.
The incident has heightened concerns over the safety of schools and candidates sitting for public examinations, with security agencies assuring residents that operations are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
