Nigeria and Botswana have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following the formal presentation of letters of credence by Nigeria’s new High Commissioner to Botswana, Ambassador John Shama Shaga, to Botswana’s President, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko.
The credential presentation ceremony was held at the State House in Gaborone and featured a guard of honour, officially marking the commencement of Ambassador Shaga’s diplomatic assignment in Botswana.
Conveying the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the High Commissioner reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening friendship and expanding cooperation with Botswana across key sectors.
Shaga identified priority areas for collaboration to include trade and investment, agriculture with a focus on livestock, creative industries, financial technology (fintech), tourism, technology, and the development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
In his remarks, President Duma Gideon Boko welcomed the Nigerian envoy and underscored the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in advancing Africa’s economic integration and regional development.
The Botswana leader expressed support for the proposed areas of cooperation and highlighted additional opportunities for partnership in the tourism and legal sectors.
President Boko also conveyed his warm regards to President Tinubu and the people of Nigeria, reaffirming Botswana’s commitment to stronger diplomatic and economic relations with Africa’s largest economy.
