Content creator and social media personality Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, has defended himself after videos of him attending what appeared to be a traditional wedding ceremony went viral, sparking mixed reactions on social media.
The self-styled relationship and finance influencer shared videos from the event on his X page on Saturday, showing himself and a woman dressed in matching burgundy traditional outfits.
GehGeh was seen wearing a flowing agbada with black bead necklaces, while an invitation card displayed in one of the videos showed the ceremony was scheduled for July 26 and identified the couple as Mary and Prosper.
Captioning one of the videos, he wrote: “So I no fit represent my brother wey dey abroad.”
He later shared additional footage, including a clip of the woman performing the traditional first-feeding rite.
The videos quickly generated widespread reactions, with many social media users and fellow content creators accusing GehGeh of contradicting the relationship advice for which he is widely known.
Some critics argued that his presence at the ceremony conflicted with the opinions he often expresses on relationships and marriage.
Responding to the criticism, GehGeh insisted that he had never advised anyone against getting married and challenged those making such claims to provide evidence.
“I never for once told y’all not to get married. Did I? If yes, show me a video of me telling you not to marry,” he wrote.
He also urged Nigerians to better understand how social media works, saying content created online should not always be taken at face value.
“Nigerians really don’t understand how social media works. If you know how to use it properly, you will never lack,” he added.
