The long-awaited Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua blockbuster has been signed and will go ahead, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed, despite fresh uncertainty over where and when the historic all-British heavyweight clash will take place.
Fury had raised doubts about the fight on Friday, but Hearn insisted that both camps are contractually committed and that neither fighter can simply walk away from the agreement.
“We’ve signed the contract, we’re waiting for a date,” Hearn told DAZN on Sunday.
Hearn was equally firm about the status of the bout, saying: “The fight’s signed. No-one can pull out of the fight. You can’t just pull out of a contract.”
The biggest unresolved issue is now the venue. The fight was initially expected to take place in the United Kingdom in November, but Saudi organisers Sela are pushing to stage the blockbuster in the United States.
Madison Square Garden in New York is reportedly among the preferred venues, with the fight also expected to be shown on Netflix.
Hearn said Joshua’s camp would rather host the fight in Britain but could agree to a US venue if suitable financial and contractual terms are offered.
“We know everybody and his dog involved in the fight wants to do the fight in America. We don’t,” Hearn said.
He added that discussions with Sela remain ongoing and that the disagreement over location does not threaten the bout itself.
With the contract signed, Fury and Joshua are now firmly on course for one of the biggest fights in British boxing history, with the venue and date the only major details still to be finalised.
