Operatives of the Mowe Division of the Ogun State Police Command have uncovered an alleged illegal baby factory in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state, rescuing two pregnant women and four children in the process.
The operation, carried out on Monday at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, also led to the arrest of six suspects as the police intensified efforts to tackle human trafficking, child exploitation and related crimes in the state.
The rescued women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who is seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody.
The six suspects comprise three women and three men. They were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63, an attending nurse; Oseni Kusamotu Idaya; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; and Stephen Ogbona, 39.
The police said the operation formed part of the Ogun State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in human trafficking, child exploitation and other related offences.
The rescued victims and arrested suspects are expected to assist investigators as the command works to establish the full activities, circumstances and network allegedly operating behind the baby factory.
The police are also expected to continue investigations into the welfare of the rescued women and children while working to identify any other persons who may have been affected by the alleged operation.
