Lionel Messi has been confirmed as the new owner of Spanish football club CD Eldense, marking the Argentine superstar’s second club ownership venture in Spain.
CD Eldense announced the acquisition in an official statement on Thursday, saying Messi has completed the transaction and will oversee the club’s next phase, subject to the required authorization from Spain’s Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) under the Sports Law.
The move adds Eldense to Messi’s growing football investment portfolio. The former Barcelona and Argentina captain previously became an owner of UE Cornellà, making Eldense his second Spanish club.
Messi’s arrival is expected to bring increased international attention to Eldense as the club seeks to strengthen its sporting, institutional and commercial ambitions.
The development also represents another step in Messi’s transition from football superstar to an influential figure in club ownership and the wider football business.
In its statement, CD Eldense described the acquisition as the beginning of a “new and exciting chapter” in the club’s more than 100-year history.
“The arrival of one of the most important figures in the history of sport as owner of CD Eldense in Spanish professional football marks the beginning of a long-term project aimed at promoting the sporting, institutional and social development of CD Eldense,” the club said.
Founded in 1921, Eldense said it enters the new chapter with the ambition of consolidating its position and growing in professional football while preserving its roots, history and blue-and-red identity.
The club, however, noted that the transaction remains pending the required authorization from the CSD under the terms established by the Sports Law.
Messi’s entry into Eldense ownership therefore opens a new chapter for the Spanish club while expanding the football icon’s involvement beyond the pitch and further into club ownership and football business.
