The Nigerian Senate has approved the appointment of 64 nominees for both career and non-career ambassadorial positions.
The upper legislative house gave the approval after reviewing a report submitted by its Committee on Foreign Affairs.
The endorsement followed the presentation of the committee’s findings by its chairman, Senator Sani Bello.
However, during deliberations, Senator Sahabi Yau expressed concern over the absence of any nominee from Zamfara State in the list.
The lawmaker called on the Senate to formally draw the President’s attention to the omission.
In his response, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, acknowledged the observation, noting that the list before the chamber was not exhaustive.
He assured his colleagues that the issue would be conveyed to President Bola Tinubu, noting that additional ambassadorial nominees are expected and that Zamfara State would not be overlooked in subsequent appointments.
