2027: Labour Party shifts presidential, governorship primaries to May 30

The Labour Party has rescheduled its 2027 primary elections earlier fixed for May 27 and May 29, 2026.

The party announced that primaries for the offices of President, Governor, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly will now hold simultaneously on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

In a statement signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the LP said the adjustment became necessary because the initial dates coincided with two major national events.

According to the statement, May 27 falls within the 2026 Eid el-Kabir celebration, while May 29 marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders across Nigeria.

The party explained that the new date would allow members, aspirants, supporters, and Nigerians to fully observe both the Sallah celebration and the national anniversary.

The Labour Party also expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling and thanked stakeholders and supporters for their understanding and cooperation.
