A social media clash between Nigerian entertainers has intensified after controversial singer Portable came to the defence of TikTok star Peller, taking aim at rapper YCee over his criticism of the content creator.
The exchange followed YCee’s appearance on the Afropolitan podcast, where he expressed concern over what he described as an “olodo uprising” among Nigerian youths and the growing celebration of internet fame over education.
The rapper criticised what he called the “Peller culture,” arguing that many young people now prioritise viral content and social media popularity instead of academic achievement and intellectual growth.
Peller responded by dismissing YCee’s remarks, describing the rapper as “illiterate” and “a very anyhow OG.”
Joining the debate in an Instagram video, Portable defended the TikTok personality, accusing YCee of blaming others for the decline of his music career instead of taking responsibility.
According to Portable, YCee should focus on reviving his career rather than attacking younger entertainers who have found success through social media.
“You didn’t blame anyone when you were successful, so don’t blame another person for your downfall now,” Portable said.
He also questioned YCee’s achievements despite his education, claiming that Peller has become more successful and influential.
“Peller is bigger than you now. Stop blaming another man for your downfall. You released Jagaban when I was in secondary school, and you haven’t had another song as successful since. Now you’re blaming the younger generation. How many houses have you bought with your education?” Portable said.
The exchange has sparked widespread reactions online, with fans divided over the debate surrounding education, talent and the changing definition of success in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
