Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said Nigeria can only build the nation of its dreams by raising a new generation of responsible, visionary and selfless leaders committed to good governance.
Obi made the remark on Sunday in a post on his Facebook page after engaging students of Madonna University, Okija Campus, during the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative themed, “Beyond Now: Raising the Next Generation of Leaders.”
According to him, the interactive session gave students the opportunity to express their frustrations over poor governance and widespread corruption, which he said have denied many young Nigerians the chance to reach their full potential.
Despite the challenges facing the country, Obi said he was inspired by the students’ optimism, resilience and determination to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.
He stressed that leadership remains the greatest determinant of any nation’s progress, noting that effective leaders must possess character, competence, capacity and compassion, alongside the willingness to make sacrifices for the good of the people.
Obi added that Nigeria’s future depends on leaders committed to protecting lives, investing in education, creating opportunities and strengthening institutions.
He urged the students to take their education seriously, prepare for leadership responsibilities and actively participate in the democratic process by electing leaders with integrity and the capacity to transform the country.
As part of his commitment to education, Obi presented a cheque of N15 million to Madonna University to support its educational programmes, describing investment in education as one of the most effective ways to develop the human capital needed for national progress.
“Together, by raising a new generation of responsible and visionary leaders, we can build the Nigeria of our dreams that is POssible,” Obi stated.
