France captain Kylian Mbappe has overtaken Miroslav Klose’s World Cup goalscoring record after scoring twice in France’s 3-0 victory over Sweden to seal a place in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mbappe’s brace took his tally at the tournament to six goals and two assists, placing him level with Lionel Messi on goals but ahead in the Golden Boot race due to his two assists.
The French forward has also moved past former Germany striker Klose on the all-time World Cup scoring chart.
Both Messi and Mbappe have now surpassed Klose’s long-standing World Cup goalscoring record during the ongoing tournament.
