AC Milan have confirmed that veteran midfielder Luka Modric has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping the Croatian star at the Serie A club for another season.
The 40-year-old joined Milan last summer after ending his remarkable 13-year spell at Real Madrid, initially signing a one-year deal with an option for an additional season.
Modric enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with the Rossoneri, making 37 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals as Milan finished fifth in Serie A and reached the Coppa Italia Round of 16.
Reacting to the new deal, the former Ballon d’Or winner expressed his excitement about continuing his journey at San Siro.
“I am thrilled to stay at AC Milan, where you made me feel welcomed and loved from the very first day,” Modric said.
“After a season below our expectations, the desire to bounce back is immense. A new season and a new challenge await us—a project I believe in and that motivates me.
“I’m ready to continue giving everything for this shirt, and I’m proud to keep wearing these colours. I can’t wait to return to San Siro and hear your roar.”
Modric recently represented Croatia at his fifth FIFA World Cup, with the national team exiting the tournament in the Round of 32 after losing to Portugal.
Widely regarded as one of football’s greatest midfielders, Modric won six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns during his illustrious career with Real Madrid following his move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.
AC Milan, now managed by former Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim, praised Modric’s impact both on and off the pitch.
In a statement, the club described the Croatian captain as a key figure in the squad, saying his experience, leadership, humility and quality have made him an important influence since arriving at the club.
With his contract now extended, Modric will continue his Milan career with the ambition of helping the Rossoneri compete for major honours in the new season.
