Chelsea Strengthen Squad With Signing Of Argentina International Valentin Barco From Strasbourg

Chelsea have continued their busy summer transfer window by completing the signing of Argentina international Valentin Barco from sister club Strasbourg, with the 22-year-old joining on a seven-year contract.

Barco becomes the Blues’ seventh signing of the transfer window and the second player to arrive from the Ligue 1 club after Emmanuel Emegha. The move also marks the 13th transfer between Chelsea and Strasbourg, who share the same ownership group, since the start of last season.

A versatile player capable of featuring at left-back and in midfield, Barco was part of Argentina’s squad that reached the FIFA World Cup final. He also attracted attention during the tournament following a heated exchange with Jude Bellingham after Argentina celebrated in front of England’s players following their semi-final victory.

Barco previously spent time in the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion before joining Strasbourg on loan in 2024. His move became permanent a year later after helping the French side qualify for the UEFA Conference League.

His arrival is the latest step in Chelsea’s squad overhaul under new head coach Xabi Alonso, who is preparing the team for the upcoming campaign.

The Blues also confirmed the signing of experienced striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton on Saturday, following the arrivals of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace and Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.

Chelsea have further strengthened their squad with the additions of Marco Palestra, Emmanuel Emegha and Geovany Quenda, highlighting the club’s determination to build a competitive team for the new season..
