Iran says the warfare launched by the United States under President Donald Trump has activated the strategic potential of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route, and permanently changed its geopolitical significance.
Iranian Army Chief, General Amir Hatami, described the Strait of Hormuz as a “God-given geopolitical asset” for the Iranian people, insisting that its strategic clout will not return to its pre-conflict status.
Speaking over the weekend, Hatami said the leverage provided by the waterway would be one of the prerequisites for ending the conflict in a manner that prevents the threat of future battles against Iran.
“One of the legacies of the U.S. president is the activation of the Strait of Hormuz’s potential,” he said, adding that “without this conflict, it would not have been activated.”
The top Iranian military official also vowed that Tehran would ensure the United States is no longer permitted to operate in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
Hatami warned that American military bases in the region would not be able to operate as they did previously, saying Iran would not allow such plans to continue.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, declared that his country had won both politically and militarily, despite the continued presence of the U.S. military.
Ghalibaf said the United States and Israel had attacked Iran with “nine specific, declared objectives” but failed to achieve any of them.
“This was a defeat for the U.S. and the Zionist regime,” he said, describing the outcome of the diplomatic process as “a source of pride and a victory on the diplomatic battlefield.”
