Paul Pogba’s contract with Monaco has been officially terminated after the French Ligue 1 club confirmed his departure on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old midfielder has been released by Monaco following a difficult spell disrupted by a series of injuries, with the former Manchester United and Juventus star struggling to regain his best form since completing his doping ban.
In a statement, Monaco said the objectives set for Pogba had been “only partially achieved”, leading to the decision to end his contract.
The club, however, praised Pogba for his “remarkable mindset, determination and unwavering high standards” throughout his time with the team.
Monaco also noted that Pogba continued to have a positive influence on his teammates even when sidelined by injury, particularly through “sharing his experience and know-how” with other players.
Pogba, in the same statement, acknowledged that he had not “played as many matches” as expected during his spell at the club.
The former France international thanked Monaco’s president, management, teammates, staff and supporters for their belief and support during his time with the club.
Pogba now faces another uncertain chapter in his career as he looks to regain full fitness and secure a new club following the termination of his Monaco contract.
