The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has faulted claims linking the late former President Muhammadu Buhari to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), insisting that he never created the body.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the organisation said Buhari established only the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC), not the PFIPC, which the Presidency has declared fake and which is currently under investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The BMO was reacting to comments by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Yakubu, who told the House of Representatives that the PFIPC originated from the Presidential Economic Advisory Council inaugurated by Buhari on October 9, 2019.
Yakubu had said, “PEAC/PFIPC did not enter the 2026 budget merely because it asked for funds. The council had its origin in the Presidential Economic Advisory Council inaugurated during the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari on Oct. 9, 2019.”
However, the BMO described the claim as incorrect, maintaining that the PEAC was only an advisory body comprising economists and financial experts led by Prof. Doyin Salami.
According to the organisation, the council had no budget line during Buhari’s administration, with its activities funded through presidential approvals processed by the Minister of Finance.
The group also stated that members of the council were not paid salaries, noting that only office expenses were covered through presidential approval and handled by the Permanent Secretary, State House.
The BMO further explained that after President Bola Tinubu assumed office in 2023, the Buhari-appointed PEAC was neither dissolved nor reappointed.
It said members considered their appointments to have ended with Buhari’s exit from office, while the office occupied by the council remained vacant until it was later assigned to others.
The organisation maintained that attempts to link the ongoing PFIPC controversy to the Buhari administration were false, unfounded and without any factual basis.
