Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has become the first African artiste to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart, marking another major milestone for African music on the global stage.
The Grammy-winning singer achieved the historic feat with ‘Dai Dai’, his collaborative FIFA World Cup song with Colombian music star Shakira, which climbed to the top of this week’s Billboard Global 200 chart.
The song also secured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Global 200 Excluding U.S. chart and jumped 12 places to a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian singer Tems continues her impressive run as her hit single ‘What You Need’ rose five places to reach a new peak of No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 after spending 15 weeks on the chart.
The song recently topped both the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban Radio Airplay chart, making Tems the first solo African artiste to achieve those milestones.
