The Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Toba Ajiboye, has died after he was shot by gunmen in Lagos.
Ajiboye was reportedly attacked on Sunday night while returning home from his childhood neighbourhood in the Fadeyi area of the state.
According to reports, the assailants intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road corridor and opened fire on the occupants.
Although Ajiboye and others in the vehicle initially survived the attack with gunshot injuries, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Chairman of the Lagos State NURTW, Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, confirmed Ajiboye’s death in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
Adekunle described the killing as heartbreaking, saying it was difficult to come to terms with the loss of a loyal, dependable and committed ally.
He said Ajiboye was more than a union colleague, describing him as a trusted friend, a man of unwavering loyalty and commitment, and a key pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation.
According to him, Ajiboye’s friendship, steadfast support and selfless service to the union over the years would remain unforgettable.
He extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and members of the NURTW, praying that God grants him eternal rest and gives his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
“Farewell, my dear friend. Your loyalty, friendship and unwavering support will forever remain in my heart. You will be deeply missed, and I will never forget the bond we shared,” Adekunle said.
