Jose Mourinho has begun his second spell as Real Madrid manager with a pledge to rebuild the club’s culture by restoring discipline, responsibility and a winning mentality.
Speaking during the club’s pre-season preparations at the training complex, the Portuguese coach said his mission goes beyond winning trophies. According to him, the priority is to improve every aspect of the team, including the players, coaching staff and overall work ethic.
Mourinho, who replaced Alvaro Arbeloa in June, returns to the Santiago Bernabéu after Real Madrid endured two successive seasons without a major trophy. His appointment is widely viewed as part of club president Florentino Perez’s efforts to restore stability and unity within the dressing room.
“I am here to help everyone become better and build a culture of hard work, ambition, responsibility and the honour of serving Real Madrid,” Mourinho said.
The Spanish giants faced several internal challenges last season, including reported dressing-room tensions and difficulties integrating star players such as Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior into a balanced team.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, overseeing one of the club’s fiercest rivalries with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona.
Ahead of the new season, Real Madrid have also reinforced their squad with the signings of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konaté as Mourinho begins his latest bid to return the club to the top.
