NAOSS Calls on Abiodun to Honour N2.5m Pledge to Late MAPOLY Best Graduating Student

The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to honour his pledge of N2.5 million to the late Comrade Oriwayi Samuel, popularly known as Samoris, who was the best graduating student of the Civil Engineering Department for the 2022/2023 academic session at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.

Veritas Nexus reports that Governor Abiodun had pledged a N2.5 million cash prize to the best graduating students of MAPOLY for each academic session from 2015/2016 to 2023/2024.

The governor made the announcement at the institution’s 15th Convocation Ceremony in June 2025, alongside the unveiling of a major N2 billion infrastructure plan for the institution.

However, Samoris, who was the top student in the Civil Engineering Department for the 2022/2023 academic session, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, before receiving the cash prize, and was laid to rest the following day.

The student body made the appeal on Saturday during its 2025 convention and election held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.

In his acceptance speech, President-elect Comrade Oluwafemi Ajayi stated, “NAOSS commends His Excellency, Prince Governor Dapo Abiodun, for his unwavering commitment to the development of education in Ogun State. As Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, he has distinguished himself in many areas, particularly in advancing student welfare.

“We are earnestly appealing to our students’ advocate and father, Governor Abiodun, to fulfil his promise to the late Comrade Oriwayi Samuel, also known as Samoris.”

“Samoris was the best graduating student of the Civil Engineering Department for the 2022/2023 session. We earnestly appeal to the governor to release the N2.5 million he promised to the family.”
