The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has expanded its Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) to Lagos State, empowering 1,000 beneficiaries with clean energy solutions, practical skills and livelihood support.
The Lagos edition of the programme was held on August 28, 2026, at the LTV Blue Roof in Ikeja, where NASENI distributed 400 NASENI Power Stoves, 100 Home Solar Solutions and other support packs to beneficiaries.
The initiative goes beyond the distribution of clean-energy products, with participants also receiving practical training in Plaster of Paris (POP) installation and electrical maintenance.
The training is aimed at giving beneficiaries skills they can use to earn income, provide services and establish or expand small businesses.
NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the programme was created to take science, technology and engineering solutions directly to households and communities.
Halilu said the agency’s clean-energy products were developed to help households and small businesses address energy challenges while adopting cleaner, more efficient and reliable alternatives.
“The objective is not simply to train people, but to give them skills they can convert into services, businesses and sustainable sources of income,” he said.
He explained that NASENI Power Stoves provide cleaner and more efficient cooking options, while the Home Solar Solutions can provide renewable energy to households and small businesses, potentially extending productive hours and supporting economic activities.
Halilu stressed that NSEP was not simply a product distribution programme, but a combination of technology deployment and practical skills development.
He said the success of the initiative would ultimately be measured by its impact on beneficiaries, including whether they are able to reduce their energy challenges, generate income from the skills acquired and establish or grow businesses.
Government representatives and community leaders at the Lagos event commended NASENI for the initiative and called for its expansion to more communities across the state.
NASENI said the Sustainable Empowerment Programme forms part of its broader effort to turn science, technology and engineering into practical opportunities for Nigerians through job creation, enterprise development, cleaner energy, increased productivity and improved livelihoods.
