The devastating floods and mountain collapse along the China-Nepal border have killed at least 1,287 people in Nepal, while 5,083 others remain missing, according to the disaster authority.
The scale of the tragedy extends beyond Nepal, with Chinese state media reporting 21 people killed and 541 missing in Tibet. Combined, the disaster that began with the August 26 glacial and mountain collapse has left at least 1,308 people dead and 5,624 missing across Nepal and Tibet.
More than 800 foreigners remain unaccounted for, including trekkers in the Himalaya mountains and pilgrims who travelled to Mount Kailash in Tibet, a site regarded as sacred by Hindus and Buddhists.
At least 17 bodies have also been recovered from rivers in India. Officials believe the bodies may have floated downstream from Nepal, but they have not been included in the official death toll.
The rising death toll and thousands still missing have underscored the devastating scale of the disaster, as rescue and recovery efforts continue across the affected areas.
