Gaza’s Hamas-run civil defense agency has reported that over 100 people were killed overnight and into early Tuesday as Israeli forces launched a new wave of airstrikes across the Palestinian territory.
According to Mahmud Bassal, spokesperson for the civil defense agency, “at least 101 fatalities were brought to hospitals, including 35 children, along with several women and elderly victims, as a result of Israeli airstrikes in less than 12 hours.”
Israel’s military confirmed that it carried out the strikes, saying it had targeted “dozens of terror sites and operatives” in response to ceasefire violations by Hamas.
The Israel Defense Forces said the truce has since been reinstated.
The renewed violence comes amid fragile ceasefire efforts brokered by international mediators following months of devastating conflict in the Gaza Strip.
