PDP NEC Schedules National Convention for March 28–29 in Abuja

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled  March 28 and 29, 2026, for the party’s National Convention, which will take place in Abuja.

The decision was reached on Monday at the PDP’s 105th National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja.

In a joint statement signed by Abdulrahman Muhammed, National Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, and Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary, the NEC explained that the resolutions were the outcome of wide-ranging discussions on the party’s current state, the broader political climate, recent judicial rulings, and arrangements for upcoming internal processes.

According to the statement, the NEC unanimously reconfirmed, ratified, and reaffirmed all resolutions reached at the Emergency 104th NEC meeting held on December 7, 2025, noting that all actions taken pursuant to those resolutions remain binding, lawful, and in full force.

The NEC emphasized its commitment to the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, describing them as central to democratic and constitutional governance.

In this regard, it welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership and administrative arrangements and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the duly constituted National Caretaker Committee of the PDP.

The committee also approved March 28 and 29, 2026, as the dates for the National Convention, at which members of the National Working Committee and other statutory organs of the party will be elected.

In addition, the NEC affirmed the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, as well as affected state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the conduct of the National Convention and subsequent state and zonal congresses.

The NEC mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and commence full logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.

Calling for unity, discipline, and loyalty, the NEC urged party members at all levels to avoid actions capable of undermining party cohesion and to place the collective interest of the PDP above personal considerations.

The committee reiterated the PDP’s commitment to rebuilding a strong, disciplined, democratic, and electorally competitive party, expressing confidence that the resolutions of the 105th NEC meeting would strengthen internal democracy, restore stability, and reposition the party for future electoral success.

Stakeholders, supporters, and members of the PDP both within Nigeria and in the diaspora were urged to remain steadfast, law-abiding, and loyal to the party’s ideals.

The NEC also formally approved March 28 and 29, 2026, as the dates for the PDP National Convention in Abuja, where members of the National Working Committee and other statutory organs of the party will be elected.
