The ongoing reforms in Saudi Arabia’s Hajj and Umrah sector could create significant new business opportunities for Nigerian private tour operators, the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, has said.
Yusuf made the remarks at the 2026 Annual Hajj Lecture organised by Independent Hajj Reporters in Abuja, where he described the Hajj and Umrah industry as undergoing one of its biggest structural transformations in a generation.
According to him, the changes in Saudi Arabia are creating fresh opportunities across several areas, including travel, healthcare, hospitality, finance and technology.
He said NAHCON had continued to engage the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah through diplomatic channels to ensure that emerging policies take Nigeria’s cultural realities and administrative structures into consideration.
Yusuf also urged stakeholders in Nigeria’s pilgrimage industry to embrace collaboration and professionalism as the sector adjusts to the changing Hajj and Umrah landscape.
He commended Independent Hajj Reporters for providing a platform for stakeholders to discuss developments and the future of the pilgrimage industry.
The event also featured recognition of state pilgrims’ welfare bodies for their contributions to the successful conduct of the 2026 Hajj operation.
Pilgrims Welfare Boards from Borno, Jigawa, the Federal Capital Territory, Adamawa, Ondo and Bauchi states received awards for outstanding performance during the pilgrimage.
Independent Hajj Reporters also honoured the governors of Plateau, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano and Kebbi states for their contributions to the 2026 Hajj exercise.
