Tension in Oyo as Sunday Igboho Issues Two-Hour Ultimatum Over Alleged Kidnapping of Residents

Tension gripped Igboho town in Oyo State as Yoruba nation agitator and youth leader, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, issued a two-hour ultimatum to Fulani community leaders, demanding the release of residents allegedly abducted by suspected kidnappers.

Adeyemo gave the directive during a meeting with Fulani elders at the palace of the traditional ruler of Igboho in the Oke-Ogun area, following reports of fresh abductions that have heightened fear among residents.

Speaking in Yoruba, he accused suspected Fulani kidnappers of being behind a series of abductions in the area, including the alleged killing of a pregnant woman. He said the latest incident involved the kidnapping of a woman, her children and a sibling, describing the development as one too many for the community.

According to him, the abductors initially demanded a ransom of N300 million before reducing it to N150 million. However, he maintained that no ransom would be paid and insisted on the immediate and unconditional release of the victims.

“I am giving them two hours. They must return the woman, her children and sibling whom they kidnapped overnight,” he declared, warning that failure to comply could further escalate tensions in the community.

Adeyemo also threatened to enter a forest reserve where he alleged the kidnappers were operating if the victims were not released within the stipulated period. He urged Fulani leaders in the community to intervene and help secure the freedom of the abducted residents, claiming those responsible were known within the area.

The meeting was attended by the town’s traditional ruler, community chiefs and officers of the divisional police command, while concerned residents gathered outside the palace awaiting the outcome of the discussions.

The development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in Oyo State, including the continued captivity of dozens of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area. Earlier attacks on schools in the Ogbomoso axis had also deepened fears among residents.

Adeyemo, who has repeatedly spoken out against insecurity in the region, recently alleged that greater support from authorities could aid rescue efforts and vowed to continue speaking against those he believes are contributing to the security challenges facing the country.
