President Bola Tinubu has expressed readiness to work closely with Benin’s president-elect, Romuald Wadagni, to strengthen bilateral ties, enhance regional security, and promote economic growth across the ECOWAS sub-region.
In a congratulatory letter following Wadagni’s victory in the April 12 presidential election, Tinubu described the transition as a significant moment in Benin’s democratic journey and conveyed Nigeria’s goodwill on behalf of the government and its people.
He said: “I therefore look forward to working closely with your administration to strengthen our bilateral relations further, enhance regional security, and promote economic prosperity within the ECOWAS sub-region and the African Union,” the Nigerian leader stated.

Moreso, Wadagni who’s current Benin’s Minister of Finance, won the election with a decisive majority in a process widely described as peaceful. Tinubu congratulated him, noting that the result reflected strong public confidence in his leadership and record in public service.
“Your victory reflects the trust the Beninese people have placed in your vision and your distinguished record of service as Minister of Finance,” he said.
Also, the President Tinubu praised Benin’s peaceful electoral process, describing it as evidence of the country’s democratic maturity and the people’s commitment to stability.
“This transition marks a significant chapter in your nation’s history. I therefore commend the people of Benin for their resilience and commitment to the democratic process and to maintaining peace during the election cycle,” he added.
Tinubu further highlighted the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and Benin, saying both countries share deep historical and cultural ties that should be further strengthened.
“Our two nations share a long history of friendship, cultural ties, and cooperation,” he noted.
He assured Wadagni of Nigeria’s continued support and expressed confidence in his ability to lead effectively.
“As you prepare to assume the onerous responsibilities of the high office of the presidency, I wish you great wisdom, fortitude, and success. Please rest assured of my unstinting support and cooperation,” the President said.
