Tinubu pledges nationwide seamless digital ID system for all Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to establishing a robust national identity system, crucial for Nigeria’s development.

The announcement was made during the official launch of the NINAuth App, a groundbreaking digital, mobile-based identity authentication application developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Speaking at the State House, President Tinubu highlighted the significance of the NINAuth App as a pivotal step in Nigeria’s journey towards a digitally empowered future. He noted that the launch marks a remarkable milestone, aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes leveraging technology to enhance governance efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

“Today’s official launch of the NIMC NINAuth App heralds a remarkable day in our nation’s digital public infrastructure journey as Africa’s largest identity database. This innovation marks yet another milestone in our collective pursuit of a digitally-empowered Nigeria,” President Tinubu stated.

He assured that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will soon adopt the NINAuth App for staff and data verification, aiming to simplify access to services, reduce bureaucratic interference, and curb inefficiencies and corruption.

The President emphasized that the app will place Nigeria on par with the world’s most technologically advanced nations, fostering seamless, secure, and inclusive access to services while maintaining high standards of data protection and national security.

“A credible and inclusive National Identity Management System is fundamental to our national development goals. It supports financial inclusion, strengthens social welfare delivery, enhances our security architecture, and ensures accurate population data for evidence-based planning,” President Tinubu explained.

The NINAuth App, according to the President, will empower every citizen and legal resident of Nigeria through a unified National Identity Database, which will drive social programs, improve electoral integrity, enhance healthcare access, and promote equitable distribution of resources.

President Tinubu called on Nigerians to embrace the new application, commending NIMC for transforming identity management into a dynamic, technology-driven system that meets global best practices.

“Let us protect this new era, utilize it responsibly, and harness its potential as a bridge to a more prosperous nation, connecting our people and institutions.”
