Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City defeated Ipswich Town 3-2, while Alexander Isak netted the decisive goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback victory over Brentford in two dramatic Premier League encounters.
At the Etihad Stadium, Phil Foden opened the scoring for City in the 19th minute after a pass from Jérémy Doku. Ipswich responded two minutes later through Daizen Maeda, who beat Gianluigi Donnarumma to level the contest. Haaland restored City’s lead in the 34th minute with a powerful header from Mateo Kovacic’s cross.
Haaland doubled his tally in the 69th minute after connecting with a defence-splitting pass from Iliman Ndiaye. Ipswich threatened a late comeback when Zian Flemming converted a penalty, but City held on despite a tense finish. The Norwegian striker also had a potential hat-trick ruled out for offside, while his apparent discomfort at full-time raised concerns over his fitness.
Meanwhile, Liverpool recovered from a first-half setback to beat Brentford 2-1, with Isak scoring the winner on his return from injury. Brentford took the lead through Keane Lewis-Potter’s header, but their position weakened when Yehor Yarmoliuk received a straight red card in first-half stoppage time following a confrontation with Jérémy Jacquet.
Liverpool capitalised on their numerical advantage after the break, with Víctor Muñoz equalising through a precise left-footed finish following a pass from Florian Wirtz. Isak completed the comeback in the 70th minute, controlling Bradley Barcola’s headed lay-off before firing past goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher. Brentford’s difficult evening worsened when Vitaly Janelt was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in stoppage time.
The results provided contrasting talking points, with Manchester City surviving Ipswich’s late pressure and Liverpool taking advantage of Brentford’s disciplinary problems. Haaland’s brace proved decisive for City, while Isak’s goal secured Liverpool’s comeback victory and three valuable points.
