2027: Peter Obi Emerges NDC Sole Presidential Candidate

Peter Obi has emerged as the sole presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 presidential election.

The party confirmed Obi’s candidacy after he was screened by its 17-member screening committee on May 19. The committee was chaired by former Ebonyi State governor Sam Egwu.

According to the NDC, Obi was the only aspirant who purchased the party’s presidential nomination form before sales closed on May 19, although the sale of forms for other elective positions has been extended until May 26.

Obi arrived at the party’s headquarters in Abuja around 6:45 p.m. alongside Senator Victor Umeh and submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms through an aide.

The party also disclosed that the screening committee, inaugurated on the same day, would oversee the screening of governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives aspirants.

NDC National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, said Sam Egwu would serve as chairman of the committee, while the party’s National Legal Adviser, Reuben Egwuaba, would act as secretary.
