Iran Declares Complete Closure of Strait of Hormuz After Fresh US Strikes

Iran has announced the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz following fresh military strikes by the United States, warning that any vessel attempting to transit the strategic waterway would be targeted.

The announcement was made by Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya military command after it reported attacks on two vessels allegedly attempting to pass through the strait.

According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the command stated that the Strait of Hormuz is now “completely closed to all types of vessel” and warned that “any vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz will be targeted.”

Iranian state media, including IRIB and Mehr News Agency, quoted the navy as saying that two ships trying to pass through the waterway were struck.

The development follows another round of U.S. military strikes on Iranian targets, marking the second consecutive night of operations ordered by President Donald Trump amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

In a statement, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces launched additional strikes against multiple targets in Iran.

“U.S. Central Command forces began launching additional self-defense strikes today at 5:15 p.m. ET against multiple targets in Iran at the Commander in Chief’s direction,” CENTCOM said, adding that the attacks were in response to what it described as Iran’s continued aggression.

Earlier, U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth indicated that further military action was likely, saying President Trump remained committed to pressuring Iran into reaching a new agreement.

The latest escalation has heightened concerns over security and global shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
