Brazil forward Neymar Jr. has confirmed his retirement from international football, bringing an end to his 16-year career with the Selecao.
The 34-year-old announced his decision after Brazil’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, revealing that he has played his final match for the national team.
Neymar made the announcement while speaking to reporters following Santos’ 4-2 victory over Universidad Central in the second leg of their Copa Sudamericana knockout round playoff.
“My time with the national team is over,” Neymar said.
“I made history, I was very happy, I gave my blood, my life. I always fought for the yellow jersey, but now I don’t want to anymore,” he added.
Neymar’s final appearance for Brazil came in the World Cup round-of-16 defeat to Norway. The veteran forward scored a stoppage-time penalty, but it was only a consolation as Brazil crashed out of the tournament.
Widely regarded as one of Brazil’s greatest footballers, Neymar bows out after 16 years of representing the five-time world champions, ending a memorable international career.
