Ogun State has attracted a fresh $250 million investment in its agricultural sector following plans by Pure Dairy Herds to establish one of the largest dairy farms in Nigeria in Ogun West Senatorial District.
The development is expected to boost local milk production, create employment opportunities, stimulate economic activities, and strengthen the state’s position as a leading destination for local and foreign investments.
The company’s representative, Farouk Gumel, disclosed the investment after a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
According to Gumel, Pure Dairy Herds is partnering with international experts to develop a world-class dairy farm designed to enhance Nigeria’s dairy industry and reduce dependence on imported milk products.
He revealed that land acquisition for the project has already been completed in Ogun West, clearing the way for development work to commence.
Gumel explained that Ogun State was selected because of its investor-friendly policies, conducive business environment, and ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly in Ogun West.
He also praised the host communities for their cooperation and support, describing the area as an ideal location for large-scale dairy farming.
“Ogun is the best. We already have a few operations in the state, and this project reflects the positive business environment and support we have received,” he said.
He added that while the initial investment is valued at $250 million, the figure is expected to rise as the project expands in the coming years.
Preparations are currently underway for the groundbreaking ceremony, which is expected to take place within the next two to three weeks.
Beyond increasing local dairy production, the project is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, support agricultural value chains, boost rural development, and further cement Ogun State’s reputation as a major investment hub in Nigeria.
