The Federal Government has commenced the construction of 100 Renewed Hope Housing Units in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas as part of efforts to provide affordable housing for vulnerable Nigerians, including victims of insecurity.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday by Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Enlightenment, during an inspection of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Renewed Hope City project in Janguza, Kano.
According to Abdulaziz, the initiative, known as the Tinubu Estate, is already underway nationwide and is designed to provide shelter and support for vulnerable groups and other disadvantaged members of society.
“Apart from Phases 1 and 2 of the Renewed Hope City project, there are also 100 housing units per local government, which have commenced as ‘Tinubu Estate.’
“They are targeted at vulnerable groups, especially victims of insecurity and other disadvantaged persons in society.
“And this is being done across all local governments in Nigeria as we speak,” he said.
Speaking on the broader Renewed Hope City programme, Abdulaziz said the housing initiative forms part of President Tinubu’s strategy to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit while expanding access to affordable homes for workers and low-income Nigerians.
He noted that allocations had already begun, with many Nigerians showing interest in the housing scheme.
According to him, the project is one of several long-term interventions aimed at improving living conditions, supporting vulnerable citizens and addressing key national development challenges.
Also speaking, the Project Manager, Builder Awe Augustine-Babatunde, said Phase 1, comprising 325 housing units, has been completed, while Phase 2, which consists of 698 housing units, is expected to be completed by August.
He disclosed that construction had reached 75 per cent completion, with about 426 housing units already built.
Augustine-Babatunde added that the estate is being developed with supporting infrastructure, including road networks, a school, a clinic and a playground, to ensure a functional and livable community for future residents.
