The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has held talks with a high-level United States delegation as Nigeria seeks to strengthen bilateral cooperation in tackling the country’s growing security challenges.
The delegation was led by the newly confirmed US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Frank Garcia, who is on his first official visit to Nigeria since assuming office earlier this year.
The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of the Nigeria–US Joint Working Group and exploring ways to deepen collaboration on key security priorities, including intelligence sharing and counterterrorism efforts.
Sharing details of the meeting on his Facebook page, Ribadu said both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding dialogue and strengthening their longstanding security partnership.
“The meeting strengthened the strong and enduring Nigeria–US partnership and assessed the progress of our Joint Working Group.
“We restated our shared commitment to deeper dialogue, cooperation and mutual security priorities,” Ribadu wrote.
The discussions come as Nigeria continues to confront rising insecurity, including terrorist attacks, banditry, kidnappings for ransom and other violent crimes affecting several parts of the country.
The Federal Government has continued to strengthen partnerships with international allies as part of efforts to improve intelligence sharing, enhance counterterrorism operations and boost national security.
