The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to closing Nigeria’s electricity supply gap, with the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, saying the Tinubu administration is intensifying efforts through energy diversification to deliver reliable and sustainable electricity across the country.
Tegbe made this known in a statement on Thursday after a meeting with stakeholders in Nigeria’s electricity supply industry.
He said the Federal Government remains committed to addressing the nation’s electricity challenges and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring lasting solutions that improve power supply for Nigerians.
According to the minister, the government’s energy diversification strategy is aimed at transforming electricity from a basic social service into an economic catalyst that drives prosperity, supports businesses and creates opportunities for citizens.
“Our approach to energy diversification under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reflects a simple but profound truth: rural electrification is no longer about extending wires into communities. It is about extending opportunity. It is about creating prosperity. It is about enabling enterprise. It is about transforming electricity from a social service into an economic catalyst,” Tegbe said.
He noted that although electricity sector performance is often measured by megawatts generated, kilometres of distribution lines constructed and the number of households connected, the true measure of success is the opportunities electricity creates for people, businesses and communities.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, stressed that stronger collaboration between federal government agencies and the private sector is critical to bridging Nigeria’s electricity supply gap and expanding access to reliable power nationwide.
