Senegal’s President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), succeeding Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio.
Faye emerged as the new regional bloc chairman during a high-level summit of West African leaders.
At the same meeting, Biram Diop was appointed President of the ECOWAS Commission, taking over from Dr Omar Touray.
The summit, attended by heads of state and government from across the region, is expected to focus on strengthening regional integration, enhancing cooperation and promoting solidarity among ECOWAS member states.
