Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has reached another major career milestone as his collaborative FIFA World Cup anthem with Shakira, “Dai Dai,” became the highest-charting World Cup song in history.
The song climbed 25 places this week to reach No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing Shakira and Freshlyground’s iconic “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which previously held the record as the highest-charting FIFA World Cup anthem.
“Dai Dai” also rose to No. 3 on the Canadian Hot 100 this week and is currently competing for the top spot on the UK Official Singles Chart, further underscoring its global success.
In a related development, Billboard has discontinued its World Digital Song Sales chart, with the final edition published on June 27, 2026.
The chart tracked some of the best-selling digital songs from markets including Nigeria, Asia, the Caribbean, South Africa and other territories, serving as a key measure of global commercial success for international music.
During its run, several Nigerian artistes, including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Mr Eazi and Rema, recorded chart-topping success on the World Digital Song Sales chart, highlighting the growing global influence of Nigerian music.
