The United States Department of State has announced the release of 250,000 limited-edition commemorative passports as part of activities leading up to the country’s 250th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the department said the special passports were created to honor America’s history and heritage while celebrating a major milestone in the nation’s journey.
According to the State Department, an American passport represents more than a travel document, describing it as a symbol of national identity and a reminder of the bond shared by U.S. citizens wherever they are in the world.
“An American passport is more than just a travel document; it’s a physical piece of our national identity, a reminder that wherever you are in the world, you are an American,” the statement said.
The department noted that the limited-edition passports were introduced in response to overwhelming public demand.
“The State Department is making 250,000 historic passports available to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary and our incredible history and heritage,” it added.
The commemorative passports are part of a series of initiatives planned ahead of the United States’ 250th Independence Anniversary celebrations in 2026, when the country will mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
