The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a robbery syndicate in the Alakuko area of the state, recovering three locally made firearms and eight rounds of live ammunition from them.
The suspects were identified as Faruk Rasheed, 20; Olamilekan Ademola, 28; and Abidemi Oluwawemo, 21.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State, SP Abimbola Adebesi, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended after operatives received credible intelligence linking them to alleged criminal activities in the area.
Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that the suspects specialised in vehicle snatching and robbery, allegedly targeting unsuspecting members of the public.
During the operation, police said officers recovered two locally made pistols containing five cartridges and a locally made revolver loaded with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
The recovery brought the total number of live ammunition seized from the suspects to eight rounds.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigators work to determine the full extent of their alleged activities and identify other members of the suspected syndicate.
The command said efforts were also ongoing to arrest other suspects believed to be connected to the group.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks operating across Lagos.
He said the command would continue to rely on intelligence-led policing and other operational strategies to protect lives and property across the state.
The commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or emergencies to the police through the Lagos State Police Command’s emergency lines.
The allegations against the suspects have not been established in court. They remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
