Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has said his music director, Emmanuel Abiola-Jacobs, popularly known as Manny or MD, might not have met his wife if he had quit secular music and left his band, The Outsiders.
Burna Boy made the remark while speaking at Manny’s wedding over the weekend, recalling that the drummer had at one point considered quitting secular music to return to the gospel music space.
The singer jokingly suggested that if Manny had followed through with the decision, he would probably have been in church “clapping hands and praising the sky” instead of enjoying the “good life” he has today.
“It’s the little things that piss me. Have you asked them how they met? You all are just eating and drinking,” Burna Boy said while addressing guests at the wedding.
Turning to Manny, he recalled his earlier desire to leave secular music and return to Christianity.
“Manny, you said you wanted to dump music and go back to Jesus and Christianity? If you had quit music, would you and your wife have met?” he asked.
Burna Boy then jokingly took credit for Manny remaining with The Outsiders, saying the wedding might never have happened if the drummer had abandoned music.
“I have given myself thanks because this wedding would not have happened if you gave up music and went to the church clapping and praising the sky,” he said.
The light-hearted remark added a humorous touch to the wedding celebration, as Burna Boy reflected on how Manny’s career journey ultimately became part of the story of how he met his wife.
