A concert by American rapper Jay-Z at Yankee Stadium in New York was delayed for more than four hours on Sunday night after hundreds of ticketless fans attempted to gain entry, prompting heightened security measures.
According to organisers, large groups of individuals without valid tickets forced their way toward the stadium entrances, disrupting access for legitimate ticket holders and causing significant delays before the event could begin.
A representative of Live Nation said hundreds of ticketless individuals overwhelmed peaceful concertgoers and, in some cases, breached security at the venue.
The organisers said gates at all entrances to the stadium were closed for an extended period before they were gradually reopened to ensure the safety of people both inside and outside the venue.
The concert, originally scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m., was delayed as hundreds of ticket holders remained stranded outside despite having valid tickets. They were later admitted in small groups after security officials restored order.
Jay-Z eventually took to the stage at about 12:15 a.m. on Monday, briefly explaining the situation to the more than 40,000 fans in attendance before beginning his performance.
The show marked the final performance in the 56-year-old rapper’s three-concert series and his first major solo concert run since 2017.
