Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has humorously explained why he does not know popular Nigerian entertainers Don Jazzy, Carter Efe and Poco Lee, saying the people familiar to comedian Isbae U are different from those within his own circle.
Obasanjo made the remarks during an appearance on Isbae U’s satirical podcast, Curiosity Made Me Ask, in an episode released on Saturday, September 19.
During the interview, Isbae U asked the former president if he knew Carter Efe.
“I don’t know,” Obasanjo replied.
When asked if he knew Poco Lee, he again answered, “No.”
Isbae U then asked about music executive and entertainer Don Jazzy, prompting Obasanjo to respond with an amused, “Ha.”
The former president subsequently joked that Isbae U appeared to know people who were unfamiliar to him.
“So, you know people that… that I don’t know,” Obasanjo said.
When Isbae U suggested that the entertainers might still know Obasanjo even if he did not know them personally, the former president responded humorously: “Ah, well, maybe because they no be important people, that’s why. That’s why the people you know, I don’t know.”
Obasanjo then contrasted the entertainers with internationally recognised figures whom he said he personally knows, recalling his encounters with the late Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III.
“Now I tell you, I know Queen Elizabeth. You say you don’t know Queen Elizabeth,” he told Isbae U.
He also asked the comedian if he knew King Charles.
“I’ve heard of him,” Isbae U replied.
“I know him,” Obasanjo responded.
The exchange followed a discussion about Isbae U’s international audience. Obasanjo also teased the comedian over having viewers outside Nigeria despite reportedly not having travelled to the United Kingdom or the United States.
