‘It’s a Life Sentence for Me’: Haley Speaks as Weinstein Gets 15 Years

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in New York in 2006, bringing another chapter to a long-running legal battle.

Before the sentence was handed down, Haley told the court that the assault had a lasting impact on her life, affecting her sense of security and wellbeing years after the incident.

“Being sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away,” Haley said.

She also described the consequences of speaking out and pursuing justice, saying she would continue to live with fear and uncertainty.

“It’s a life sentence for me,” Haley told the court.

Weinstein, 74, maintained his innocence while asking the judge for leniency. He expressed remorse for Haley’s pain but continued to deny committing the offence.

“I do have remorse for Miriam Haley’s pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence,” Weinstein said.

The 15-year sentence followed Weinstein’s conviction in June 2025 at a New York retrial. He was found guilty of first-degree criminal sexual act involving Haley. He was acquitted of a separate charge involving former model Kaja Sokola, while jurors were unable to reach a verdict on a rape charge involving Jessica Mann.

Weinstein’s original 23-year New York sentence, imposed after his 2020 conviction, was overturned by New York’s highest court in 2024, which ruled that he had not received a fair trial.

Weinstein was also separately convicted in California in 2022 of rape and sexual assault and sentenced to 16 years. A California appeals court upheld those convictions in June 2026 but ordered him to be resentenced because the original judge had considered his since-overturned New York convictions as an aggravating factor.

For Haley, the latest sentencing marks another stage in a legal fight that has lasted years. Her words in court, however, focused on the lasting personal consequences she says the assault has had on her life — consequences she described as a “life sentence.”
