The Lagos State Police Command has shut down a suspected illegal factory allegedly involved in the production and packaging of adulterated alcoholic beverages in the Yafin area of Badagry, Lagos.
Police operatives also arrested 48-year-old Anaebo Emeka Hilary in connection with the suspected operation.
The operation followed information provided by members of the public, prompting police operatives to move against the facility, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi.
During the operation, officers recovered suspected adulterated alcoholic drinks, empty bottles, assorted wine labels and various production utensils and equipment allegedly used in manufacturing and packaging the beverages.
The police subsequently sealed the facility, while Hilary was taken into custody for questioning. The recovered items were also transferred to the police station as investigations into the suspected operation commenced.
The discovery has raised concerns over the production and circulation of alcoholic beverages outside approved channels, with authorities investigating the source and intended distribution of the suspected products.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, commended the officers for their swift response to the information received and their vigilance.
Fatai said the command would continue to conduct intelligence-driven operations aimed at tackling criminal activities across Lagos.
He also urged residents to provide timely and credible information on suspected criminal activities to enable the police to respond promptly and help protect communities.
