Glo Backs 2026 Ofala Festival as Onitsha Marks 25th Ofala of Obi Achebe

Globacom has announced its sponsorship of the 2026 Ofala Festival in Onitsha, as the historic cultural celebration prepares to hold next week to mark the 25th Ofala of the reign of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe.

The 2026 festival is themed “Igba Mbo, Iga N’Iru – Strive and Advance: From Resilience to Progress,” highlighting the resilience, enterprise and determination of the people of Onitsha to preserve their cultural heritage while pursuing progress.

Globacom, which has sponsored the Ofala Festival for more than 15 years, said its continued partnership reflects its commitment to preserving and promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The telecommunications company said the theme captures the resilience and determination of the Onitsha people to uphold their traditions while embracing opportunities for growth and development.

“For Globacom, Ofala is far more than an annual cultural celebration. It is a living expression of identity, continuity and collective aspiration,” the company said in a statement.

Globacom said its sponsorship goes beyond conventional corporate support, describing the partnership as an investment in cultural preservation, community engagement and the continuity of the Onitsha people’s heritage.

The company noted that the festival has evolved from a royal rite of renewal into a major platform for cultural expression and community development.

Activities lined up for the 2026 celebration include the Obi’s traditional period of seclusion and ceremonial emergence, a Medical, Health and Wellbeing Community Outreach, the international Oreze Art Exhibition, Youth Carnival, as well as the Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala ceremonies.

Globacom said its partnership with Ofala also aligns with its philosophy of promoting innovation, connectivity and digital inclusion.

The company added that its “Never Settle for Less” philosophy reflects the festival’s emphasis on drawing strength from tradition while pursuing greater opportunities and progress.

The 2026 Ofala Festival is expected to bring together traditional leaders, residents, visitors and cultural enthusiasts as Onitsha celebrates its heritage and marks the 25th Ofala of Obi Achebe’s reign.
