Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has announced the death of its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Dan Osi Orbih.
The university announced his death on Tuesday in a statement signed by Otunba Mike Aladenika, Principal Assistant Registrar and Head of Information, Protocol and Public Relations.
The management of the university, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, management, staff and students, described Orbih’s death as a painful loss to the institution, Edo State and Nigeria.
“The University received with deep shock and a heavy heart the news of the death of the distinguished statesman, political leader and administrator, whose passing has created a painful void not only in Ambrose Alli University but also in Edo State and Nigeria at large,” the statement said.
According to the university, Orbih brought extensive experience, courage, wisdom and an unwavering commitment to the advancement of AAU to his role as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
It said his tenure was marked by a strong determination to reposition the university, restore its lost glory and strengthen its capacity to provide quality education and contribute meaningfully to society.
The university said Orbih demonstrated a deep commitment to the welfare of the institution and its community, while consistently advocating initiatives aimed at promoting academic excellence, good governance, institutional stability and sustainable development.
“His contributions to the growth and transformation of Ambrose Alli University will remain indelible in the history of the institution,” the statement added.
Beyond AAU, the university described Orbih as a respected political leader and statesman who devoted several decades to public service.
It noted that his influence and contributions to the political and socio-economic development of Edo State and the South-South region earned him recognition across Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Eunice Omonzejie, on behalf of the Governing Council, management, staff and students, extended heartfelt condolences to Orbih’s wife, children, siblings and the entire Orbih family.
The university community also expressed solidarity with the family and prayed that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
AAU further prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, asking God to grant him eternal rest.
“Chief Dan Osi Orbih will be deeply missed. His legacy of service, courage and commitment to the advancement of Ambrose Alli University will continue to inspire generations,” the university said.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
